What is a typical data migration project team structure?
Thursday, April 2 Question received from member (02/Apr/09):
Hi, we're putting together a data migration plan for a new ERP system, just wanted to check with the expert panel how they go about structuring the various project teams.
What are the main teams in a typicaly migration project and how should they interact? eg. Who has responsible for signing off business requirements, who signs off technical requirements etc.?
Really appreciate any help you can provide as there is nothing really documented anywhere on all this.

Some input regarding Main Teams (this in relation to Oracle E-biz impl):
- Plan and manage Enterprise
- Offering Management
- Customer & Demand Management
- Supply Management
- Support Enterprise Finance
- Support Enterprise IT
- Technical Team
In relation to SAP impl. project the following teams are often seen (depending of impl. scoop):
SD = Sales & Distribution
CS = Customer Service
FI = Finance / CO = Controlling
MM = Material Management
PP = Production Planning
IT/ Infrastructure/Authorizations
...and the MDM team not to forget as 50% of successful ERP implementations rely on high data quality.
Normally the setup is counterpart where you have minimum one internal super user and one functional consultant for each of the areas.
But remember it's a really BIG area to answer here without knowing more about the actual project.
